This study presents the design and performance evaluation of Differential Evolution (DE) optimized Proportional-Integral (PI) controller for Automatic Generation Control (AGC) of an interconnected power system. For the optimization of controller parameters using modern heuristic optimizations techniques, selection of suitable objective function is very important. In view of the above, different objective functions using Time multiply Absolute Error (ITAE), damping ratio of dominant eigenvalues and settling time with appropriate weight coefficients are employed to increase the performance of the controller.
